Physiology and Biophysics mourns the passing of Dr. Eric Feigl, Professor Emeritus and respected member of PBIO for over 50 years. The University of Washington recruited Dr. Feigl as an Assistant Professor in 1969. Colleagues remember him for his commitment to teaching and his love of the outdoors.
Dr. Bertil Hille shared that Eric was one of the last of our center-of-excellence in traditional whole animal cardiovascular research, along with being an avid climber.
Dr. George Brengelmann shared his remembrances of Dr. Feigl:
“Eric was a mainstay of the long-lasting Program Project on the Cardiovascular System. He served for many years as the chair of the cardiovascular system course for the second year medical students, working closely with the Cardiology division faculty. He was a regular at their early morning grand rounds meetings. The obituary mentions the broad influence he had on his field through the students he mentored. Working in the lab across the hall, I got to know his graduate students and post-docs and observed the strength of the culture of excellence and integrity they benefited from. Personally, I celebrate the memory of all the time we spent together over the years in the day in and day out business of teaching, discussing lab problems, arguing about things like feed-forward control, and the pleasure of friendship in discussing things like the latest chamber music concert or skiing expedition.”
